MODEC has been awarded a contract by ExxonMobil Guyana Limited to develop a Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) vessel for the Hammerhead project offshore Guyana.
The contract, issued as a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP), allows MODEC to begin early-phase work while awaiting necessary regulatory and government approvals. The project will proceed in two phases: Phase one involves front-end engineering and design (FEED), and Phase two will cover engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI), pending final project sanction by ExxonMobil and its co-venturers in the Stabroek Block.
The Hammerhead FPSO will be capable of producing 150,000 barrels of oil per day, with facilities to process associated gas and water. It will be moored in approximately 1,025 meters of water using a SOFEC spread mooring system, with a targeted startup in 2029, contingent on approvals.
In addition to the FPSO contract, MODEC has established an Operations and Maintenance Enabling Agreement (OMEA) for long-term services supporting multiple FPSOs in Guyana. This marks MODEC’s second FPSO project in the region, following the ongoing construction of the Errea Wittu for ExxonMobil’s Uaru development.
MODEC’s President and CEO, Hirohiko Miyata, expressed pride in securing the contract, emphasizing the company’s commitment to delivering innovative and reliable offshore solutions in partnership with ExxonMobil Guyana.
