Interocean Marine Services (Interocean), a prominent provider of offshore support services, has been awarded this year’s Associate Member’s Safety Award at the esteemed IADC North Sea Chapter (NSC) Annual Safety Awards.
Steven Henderson, Manager of Remote Inspections, and Alex Reid, Chief Operating Officer, represented Interocean at the event. The company’s dedication to safety is exemplified by its groundbreaking implementation of UAV-based Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement (UTM) inspections. As one of the first organizations globally to obtain both ABS and DNV certifications for performing UTM inspections via drones on Mobile Offshore Units, Interocean has established new standards within the industry.
The introduction of drone technology has revolutionized conventional inspection practices, significantly decreasing personnel exposure to dangerous conditions and cutting the need for scaffolding and rope access by as much as 80%. This innovation not only accelerates inspection processes but also ensures compliance and precision.
By reducing operational hazards, Interocean’s drone-assisted inspections are enhancing safety across the energy, maritime, and industrial sectors.
Upon receiving the award, Alex Reid, Chief Operating Officer, stated: “We are privileged to be acknowledged by the IADC for our commitment to elevating offshore safety standards. This recognition reflects Interocean’s continuous efforts to support our clients by improving safety, efficiency, and sustainability in offshore drilling activities.”
Interocean’s forward-thinking application of drone technology not only bolsters safety measures but also streamlines inspections, minimizes downtime, and reduces costs. By empowering asset owners to make well-informed decisions, the company remains dedicated to safeguarding both personnel and assets in offshore settings.
