The Guyanese government has announced the arrival of the One Guyana floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel, marking a major milestone for offshore oil development in the Stabroek block, operated by US supermajor ExxonMobil.

Built by Dutch specialist SBM Offshore, the One Guyana FPSO has entered Guyanese waters and is preparing to begin operations later this year at ExxonMobil’s Yellowtail field. The vessel is designed with a processing capacity of 250,000 barrels of oil and 450 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, a significant boost that is expected to lift Guyana’s total production to around 900,000 barrels per day.

Currently, ExxonMobil is producing approximately 650,000 barrels per day in the country through three FPSOs — Liza Destiny, Liza Unity, and Prosperity — operating in the Liza and Payara fields.

“The arrival of the One Guyana FPSO is a powerful symbol of progress, not only in oil production, but in the continued empowerment of our people through job creation, local business opportunities and increased revenues that support development across Guyana,” said Vickram Bharrat, Guyana’s Minister of Natural Resources.

Following One Guyana, ExxonMobil plans to deploy the Errea Wittu and Jaguar FPSOs for the Uaru and Whiptail developments, respectively, within the Stabroek block. The company is also seeking approval for its seventh and eighth projects — Hammerhead and Longtail — which are slated to start operations in 2029 and 2030.

These developments reaffirm Guyana’s rapidly growing role as a major player in the global oil market.
